September 1-September 30

Dear Dormont Neighbor,
For the past 90 years, the Dormont Public Library has been a steadfast pillar in our community. This past month, we’ve been showing ways “You Can” with our library.

  • Whether you’re networking, collaborating, or catching up, “You Can” connect at your library. We have a large meeting space and a fantastic soundproof TalkBox courtesy of Dollar Bank to take meetings in. Regular events like Lego Club or Adult Craft Time are great ways to meet your neighbors.
  • No matter your age, “You Can” learn something new at your library. From career and job resources to workshops and educational programs, there is always something new to take away. Did you know that 1,425 people attended our programs last year?
  • “You Can” discover something awesome at your library. The Dormont Public Library not only has books but movies, audiobooks, digital books, and even museum passes! You can visit the local Heinz History Museum or the Fort Pitt Museum anytime of the year.
  • Everyone belongs here. “You Can” find your place at your library. Story Times for different ages and even an Adult Book Club to explore different books are a few of the many programs we offer . Our popular Doggie Storytime happens once a month all year long!

You’ve seen all the ways You Can benefit from your library. This September, You Can help ensure these opportunities continue for everyone. During Love Your Library month, libraries across Allegheny County increase awareness of library services and programs and encourage residents to make a gift to their local library.

More people like Pat have found “They Can” connect, learn, discover, and belong at the Dormont Public Library. We can’t do that without your support. We’re asking you for your help. Last year, we were able to provide more programming and opportunities. We have depended on Borough, RAD, and State funding but that only covers 75% of our budget. Can you help us get the other 25%?

Many of your neighbors have learned to read by reading to therapy dogs or learned about services they qualify for at the library. A gift today will support library improvements and provide more programs like the summer reading program or Doggie Storytime for years to come. Can you help with a gift of $100, $50, or $25?

New for this year! If you donate $50 or more, you can pick up a “Love Your Library” tote bag! Donations up to $500 given during this month will be eligible for a partial match from the Jack Buncher Foundation. This means every dollar you give will go even further to help our library!
The library is your neighborhood meeting place to connect, learn, discover, belong and make a difference for the future of our library and community. We look forward to seeing you soon and thank you for your generosity.

Pictured: Pat and Buzz. Pat’s been bringing Buzz, a Therapy Dog, for the Doggie Storytime every month. Kids practice their reading by reading to Buzz and he listens attentively. And she’s regularly donating to the Dormont Public Library. She shared with us why she uses the library services:

“The library is a big part of who I am and will continue to be! As a child we went to the library every other week. Libraries are everything! I use the library for books,
classes, meetings, information, socialization, and volunteering!”
