This September, libraries across Allegheny County are inviting residents to participate in a special fundraising collaboration to show support for their local library. Now in its fifth year, “Love Your Library,” a county-wide initiative developed by the Allegheny County Library Association and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, provides a way for residents to “show their love” to their local library.
During the month of September, all donations made to more than 46 area library systems will go even further. Your donation will have a pro-rated match thanks to generous support from the Jack Buncher Foundation. For 2020, the Jack Buncher Foundation has increased the size of the pool for matching funds.
This year has posed an unprecedented challenge for Allegheny County libraries. We don’t know yet what the “new normal” is going to look like, but we’re going to attempt to provide as many of our regular programs and services as possible, in reduced- or no-contact forms. Here’s what we can do for our patrons right now:
- Regular circulation services with curbside pickup
- 24/7 Wi-Fi available in the parking lot
- Remote document services: printing, faxing, scanning, and copying
- Reference and computer questions by phone or email during staff hours
- Video Storytime, including new chapter book stories coming soon
- Origami craft videos
- Other virtual programs we’re still working on (anyone interested in a Covered Dish Recipe Swap?)
We also understand it’s been a difficult year for our patrons and the community. We will not be sending out our annual fundraising letter this year, although some of our recent donors may receive Love Your Library envelopes graciously provided by the Jack Buncher Foundation.
Anything you can do to contribute is welcome, however, even if it’s just adding a candy bar or a Book Sale Grab Bag with your next curbside pickup. These fundraising items qualify for matching funds from the Jack Buncher Foundation as well.
And if it is within your means, you can set up a one-time or recurring donation through the ACLA web site. Just click the button below. (Only donations made during September qualify to be matched, however.)
And there’s a way you can help us with no charge at all: tell your friends, family, and coworkers about Love Your Library. Use #ACLALibraryLove. Or send us your story about how the library has helped you stay connected. Or take a photo of yourself with your favorite book and send it in!
We even have a limited number of Love Your Library lawn signs available. Just let us know when you place your curbside order and we’ll be happy to let you display one.
