Saturday Storytime: Apples to Oregon

Amy reads Apples to Oregon, by Deborah Hopkinson and with illustrations by Nancy Carpenter, published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers.

The full title of this book is “Apples to Oregon: Being the (Slightly) True Narrative of How a Brave Pioneer Father Brought Apples, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Grapes, and Cherries (and Children) Across the Plains”. Talk about a mouthful! This all-American tall tale is (very) loosely based on the story of a real family who brought the first apple trees to Oregon, but it certainly didn’t happen quite like this…

After the story, Amy demonstrates how to create your own 3-dimensional apple tree with apples you can pick and put back.
