Amy reads Minty: A Story of Young Harriet Tubman, written by Alan Schroeder and illustrated by Jerry Pinkney, published by Dial Books.

This is a fictional story about Harriet Tubman’s youth, although it’s based on facts. Even as a child, Minty dreams of freedom, watching and learning the skills she would later use to free herself and so many others. After the story, Amy demonstrates an art project illustrating the landmarks of the adult Harriet Tubman’s escape: traveling through forests, crossing rivers, and finding north with the Big Dipper.
