This week, Amy reads Jacob’s New Dress, written by Sarah and Ian Hoffman and illustrated by Chris Case, published by Albert Whitman & Co.
Jacob likes to wear dresses; they make him feel safe and comfortable. His classmate Christopher insists that dresses are only for girls, but his other classmate Emily supports him. When he asks his parents if it’s okay to wear a dress to school, they’re a little startled, but realize that there’s more than one way to be a boy.
Afterwards, make your own clothespin doll (boy, girl, or something else) and create a simple dress for them.
