Get Ready for Summer Reading
Final Week - All Books Count Double - Kids' and Teens' Ending Party July 31 at 11 AM
Dormont Public Library's Summer Reading Program wraps up on July 31 at 11 AM, with a presentation of "Polar World: Arctic Animals". Touch a real polar bear's claw, a piece of baleen, and learn about the animals of the Arctic Circle, one of the coldest places on earth. Presented by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
Until July 31, all books count double for prizes! July 31 is your last chance to log books for the program and earn your certificate of completion.
Children and young adults who sign up for the program earn a chance to win prizes for each book they read, and adults who read ten books or more are invited to an ending party on September 1.
It's not too late to sign up for the Summer Reading Program, so ask at the front desk today!
(Due to a typographical error, some of our printed materials stated that the Ending Party was at 10 AM. It is at 11 AM. We apologize for the error.)
Extended Summer Hours Begin July 1
Starting July 1, Dormont Public Library will open at 9 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This means that we will be open at 9 AM six days a week, Monday through Saturday. Pick up or return items earlier, or beat the rush in the computer lab.
Remember, starting July 1 and through the summer, our hours will be 9 AM - 9 PM on Monday through Thursday, and 9 AM - 5 PM on Friday and Saturday.
Just like last year, if these new hours are popular and if we continue to receive sufficient funding, we hope to make them permanent. We hope to see you in the mornings!
Computer Lab Adds Wi-Fi Printing
Patrons using wi-fi connected laptops or netbooks can now print to Dormont Library's black-and-white and color printers with a quick and simple download. Get the necessary software and find out how to use it.
Standard printing charges of 20¢ per page for black-and-white and 50¢ for color apply.
The computer lab also offers color and black-and-white scanning services, at a cost of 50¢ per page. Need supplies? We have 2GB USB flash drives for $10.00 and 100% cotton resume paper and envelopes for 25¢.
Help Us Help You
Dormont Public Library offers a variety of free services to the residents of Dormont and surrounding communities. And it's the people of those communities that really keep us afloat, especially in these times of tight state budgets.
It's now easier than ever to make a donation to Dormont Public Library with the new online donation form here and in the Catalog. Even small contributions are a great help to us, and will allow us to continue providing access to thousands of books, CDs, and DVDs locally (and millions countywide), our staffed computer lab and classes, printing and fax services, children's storytimes, and all of our other programs and services available to all patrons.
Tail Waggin' Storytime - Now Monthly
This unique Storytime for children from kindergarten to 5th grade returns! In this program, children are invited to practice their reading skills on special storytime listening dogs that will be visiting the library.
This program will meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Registration is required, and enrollment is limited to sixteen. Please call 412-531-8754 to register.
Storytime listening dogs are provided by Therapy Dogs International.

Energize your mind and body with the power of yoga. These donation-supported classes are taught by the certified instructors of Human Race Yoga and the Friends of Human Race Yoga.

Registration is not necessary for these classes. Please bring your own water, towel, and yoga mat, and wear comfortable athletic clothes. A limited number of mats will be available for a $1 rental fee.

Senior citizens are invited to join the PALS Book Club for monthly book discussions. The club meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 PM. Recent and classic fiction and non-fiction will be covered.

Dormont Artists and Writers Group - Now Meets Twice A Month
The Dormont Artists and Writers' Group meetings will be held in the Keith Room on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 PM. Membership is open to creative people ages 10 and up, but children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Emerging and experienced writers and artists are invited to exchange ideas, share work, and learn from each other at this informal workshop. Most genres of work are welcome at group meetings, but due to the intergenerational nature of the program, participants are requested to submit only works appropriate for all ages. Call the library at 412-531-8754 for more information.
